There is a snappy little man who visits this place of business quite often, with goggly glasses and a papery cap. When I told Larry that the man and I talked about places that I could buy a good used bike, he said, "Oh, that man? He looks like Mr. Zippy."

And I said "Mr. Zippy? Is he on television?"

And he said "No, he is just a man in my head."

The idea that this gruff old spot, this stout stern Larry, could possibly have a fanciful cast of characters squatting in his mind, gives me a hope. It gives me hope that we are not all just thrashers, thrashing around.
